The film that made bodywarmers (basically sleeveless Puffa jackets) and skateboarding fashionable again. Michael J Fox played the teenage hero with the time-travelling DeLorien car, who returns to the 1950s to make sure his teenage mum and dad get together and so ensure his future survival.

The film spawned two sequels and a hit single - The Power of Love - from US rockers Huey Lewis and the News

When Ronald Reagan first saw the joke about him being president, ie. "Ronald Reagan? The actor? Ha! Then who's Vice President, Jerry Lewis?", he made the projectionist of the theatre stop the reel, roll it back, and run it again. He also considered accepting a role in the third film as the 1885 mayor of Hill Valley but eventually declined.

Grange Hill is our 80s Star of Today.

Grange Hill's golden period was undoubtedly the middle to late 1980s. This period attained the highest ratings in the show's history and one of the most popular storylines was of fans' favourite Zammo and his addiction to heroin. This storyline ran for two series (1986-87) and focused on Zammo's descent into drugs and his strained relationship with his girlfriend Jackie and friend Kevin.

Depeche Mode are our 80s Stars of Today.

Soon after the formation of "Composition of Sound", Clarke and Fletcher switched to synthesizers, working odd jobs, including a carpentry, to buy them, or borrowing them from friends. Gahan joined the band in 1980 after Clarke heard him perform at a local scout-hut jam session, crooning to a rendition of David Bowie's 'Heroes', and "Depeche Mode" were born. The new name was taken from a French fashion magazine, "Dépêche mode", which translates to "Fashion News".

The 80s Forum Star for Today is...Ally Sheedy

Alexandra Elizabeth Sheedy (born June 13, 1962) is an American screen and stage actress, possibly best known for her roles in the "Brat Pack" films The Breakfast Club and St. Elmo's Fire. Sheedy was born in New York City to John J. Sheedy, Jr. a Manhattan-based advertising executive, and Charlotte Baum, a notable press agent who was involved in women's and civil rights movements. Her parents divorced in 1971. She has two siblings, Patrick and Meghan.

Challenge Anneka is our 80s Star of Today.

Anneka Rice was a majorly under-rated presenter in my eyes, from Treasure Hun, to Challenge Anneka she always gave us excellent viewing. I may be biased when I say this, but I thought she was excellent in both these shows, perhaps I should have used Treasure Hunt instead of Challenge. Sticking with Challenge Anneka, may use Treasure Hunt at a later stage. Absolutely loved watching this show, used to always look forward to it on tv, think it was the BBC it was on. All the stuff she used to get up to, having to ask all those people for freebies, used to totally embarrass me, never mind her.

One of the greatest 80s actors, a legend in my eyes. I'll never forget the first time I saw Back to the Future, it just blew me away, I had no idea that MJF was actually 24 at the time, he certainly didn't look it. They say that sequels are not a good thing, this time they were wrong, Back to the Future 2 and 3 were also equally excellent films, starring superb actors and writers and directors, it was the 80s personified, it really was.

Snooker Maximum for Burnett at Prestatyn

Jamie Burnett has become the seventh Scottish snooker player to compile a competitive maximum break.
The 32-year-old from Hamilton knocked in the 147 during his 4-3 win over Liu Song at the Royal London Watches Grand Prix qualifiers at Prestatyn.

Amazingly, the break is not Burnett's highest as he constructed a 148 - made using a free ball - in the UK Championship qualifiers in 2004.

It remains the highest in the history of the professional game.

The 80s Forum Star of Today is The Rubik's Cube.

The one symbol that tyoifies the 80s is this, The Rubik's Cube, the most annoying little cube in the world. How many days did we all sit trying to solve this, I know I used to sit for ages trying to do it and still can't to this day. Eventually, I gave up and just took the stickers off and placed them back to give the impression that I solved the damn thing, of course when you do that, you cannot put them back the exact way they should be, so everyone noticed and knew what you did, but just kept quiet and said well done, what a plonker!! Anyway, it's our 80s Star of Today, The Rubik's Cube.

One of the scariest films ever, A Nightmare on Elm Street is our Star of Today.

A Nightmare on Elm Street is an American horror film directed by Wes Craven about several teenagers being terrorized in their nightmares by a mysterious man named Freddy Krueger in the fictional Midwest town of Springwood, Ohio. Released on November 9, 1984 by New Line Cinema, the film stars Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger, Heather Langenkamp as Nancy Thompson, Ronee Blakley as mother Marge Thompson, John Saxon as father Lt. Donald Thompson, Amanda Wyss as Tina Grey, Nick Corri as Rod Lane and Johnny Depp as Glen Lantz.

Star of Today is the best gameshow of the 80s, probably. It's the one we all remember the most, I think.

Blockbusters, do you remember it.

Buzzing in and answering the question correctly meant that space would be turned your colour. One player had the white spaces, and a team of two players had blue. The idea of the game was to fill in as many spaces as necessary so that a contiguous line of your colour went across the board horizontally (for the blue team) or vertically (for the white player, who could make the journey in one less space than the blues to compensate for their single-ness).

Todays 80s Star is one of my favourite singers, Alison Moyet.

She has had some excellent tunes, all of which were sung superbly.

Think of Yazoo (Don't Go) and her solo stuff (All Cried Out, Is This Love?), superb, a worthy entrant I think.

Alison Moyet was born in Billericay, Essex, England to a French father and English mother. She grew up in Basildon, where she attended school. After leaving school at 16, she worked as a shop worker and a piano tuner.

Molly Ringwald is our 80s Star of Today.

Molly Kathleen Ringwald (born February 18, 1968) is an American actress, singer, and dancer. She became popular with teenage audiences in the 1980s, as a result of her starring roles in the John Hughes movies Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink. Ringwald was born outside Sacramento, California in Roseville, California, the daughter of blind jazz pianist Robert Scott "Bob" Ringwald, and Adele Edith (née Frembd), a housewife and chef. Ringwald has two siblings, Elizabeth and Kelly. She started her acting career at age five, starring in a stage production of Alice in Wonderland as the dormouse.

Todays 80s Star is Hill Street Blues

In the days of E.R and NYPD Blue, it's hard to remember just how ground-breaking a show HSB was. Nothing like it had ever been seen before. The quality of the acting and writing, the documentary look and feel, the seedy broken down environment, the brutally frank situations and language (for the time), the fact that the "bad" guys got away with it as often as not, the huge ensemble cast, the long one-take scenes, the unhappy endings etc. etc.

Level 42 are The 80s Forum Star of Today

Level 42 was formed in 1980 as a jazz-funk fusion band. The Gould brothers, drummer Phil and guitarist Boon, together with then drummer Mark King all came from the Isle of Wight and had played together in various bands during their teenage years. In late 1979 Phil introduced King to keyboard player Mike Lindup, who Phil had met while studying at London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

The Breakfast Club is a 1985 teen film widely considered as the definitive work in the genre. Written and directed by John Hughes, the storyline follows five teenagers (each representing a different clique in high school) as they spend a Saturday in detention together and come to realize that they are all deeper than their respective stereotypes. The film has become a cult classic and has had a tremendous influence on many coming of age films since then.

Paul Young is our 80s Star of Today

Paul was born on January 17, 1956 in Luton, England, as the younger brother of Mark, and the elder brother of his sister Joanne. After school, he went to work at the Vauxhall Motors factory, but in his spare time, would play in several bands as a bass guitarist. The first group for which he became lead singer was Kat Kool & The Kool Kats. In the 1970s he joined the Streetband, who had one Top 40 hit in the UK with the humorous track "Toast", reaching No. 18 in 1978. In December of 1979 the Streetband broke up, and Young formed the Q-Tips, who established their name by playing live, but never had any hits in the UK. In Europe, however, their single "Letter Song" enjoyed some minor success.

Willo the Wisp is The 80s Forum Star of Today

Do you remember them-

Willo the Wisp, the narrator. A blue floating ghost-like creature, Willo had a long pointed nose which caricatured that of Williams.
Arthur the caterpillar (as a gruff cockney).
Mavis Cruet, a plump fairy with erratic magical powers.
Evil Edna, a witch in the form of a walking, talking television set who could zap people with her aerial.
Carwash, a snooty bespectacled cat (as Noel Coward).
The Moog, a brainless dog.
Twit, a small bird.
The Beast, who began life as a dim prince before an unfortunate encounter with Edna ended up with his transformation into a hairy shambling creature.

The Cure are a successful English rock band, widely seen as one of the leading pioneers of the British alternative rock scene of the 1980s. A combination of lead singer Robert Smith's iconic wild hair, pale complexion, smudged lipstick, and the frequently gloomy and introspective lyrics have led to the band being primarily classified as gothic rock.

However, the band rejects this, citing the variety of their material. This variety is exemplified by very exuberant and optimistic pop, such as the singles "The Lovecats", "Why Can't I Be You" and "High." The Cure have sold close to 50 million albums worldwide?

The first incarnation of what became The Cure was The Obelisk, a band formed by students at Notre Dame Middle School in Crawley, Sussex. The band made their public debut in a one-off performance in April 1973, and featured Robert Smith (piano), Michael Dempsey (guitar), Laurence "Lol" Tolhurst (percussion), Marc Ceccagno (lead guitar) and Alan Hill on bass guitar.

The 80s Forum Star of Today is Ghostbusters

Ghostbusters is a 1984 sci-fi comedy film about three eccentric New York City parapsychologists. After they are fired from a university, they start their own business investigating and capturing ghosts.

It was released in the United States on June 8, 1984, starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Rick Moranis, Sigourney Weaver, Annie Potts and Ernie Hudson. The film grossed approximately USD$240 million in the U.S. and over $50 million abroad during its theatrical run, more than the second Indiana Jones installment, making it easily the most successful film of that year, and the most successful comedy of the 1980s.You either loved or hated this film, Bill Murray was excellent in it, but it's not one of my favourite films, as comdies go it was good, but watching it now is like watching paint dry.
